How he longs to stay in a warm bed, here, and amongst the sounds of people. Mr. Baggins, he knows better. The subtle jingle of the chain around his neck is enough to remind him that, no matter how quiet, how distant and blurred the will of the Ring might be, he cannot risk laying madness on these people. Even Sam, in his steadfast loyalty, and Galadriel, in her beauty and wisdom, had their minds drawn, even if just a little, by the ring. As kind as their faces and offers are, would they really be strong enough to keep their hands and minds stayed against its seduction?

There is no need to test these poor people with such a thing. It is his burden.

So Frodo has decided to settle himself in a camp of his making, outside of the village, but, he hopes, somewhere away from this beast that wanders the forest. Where? He does not know... but wandering is a part of Frodo's stretched-too-big world, now, so he will bear a bit of exploration.

He will be passing through the town with his large bag and a somber smile, a sprig of grass in his mouth and a pub song quiet in his throat. Though he might be hesitant, feel free to stop him to chat or ask what a small child is doing wandering around with no shoes on. ]

It isn't that we hide, but our homes are far from the lands of the others in our world. We keep to our own business and affairs. Such ways keep us out of the way of many, so there are those who have not heard of us, and more who have not met a hobbit.

Oh. That sounds like the village back home! So you guys don't leave your homes at all?

It isn't often a hobbit leaves the Shire, no. I'm a rather strange case amongst us.

Then how come you did?

I was appointed a task, passed down to me from dear family. It was something far more important that me and became far more than I had ever expected it.

Kind of like Tao, then? I got very important assignments from the elder and cat person. If Tao didn't do it, the village would be in really big trouble, meow.

That is quite a similar thing to my situation, yes. Quite the same.

Was your journey dangerous?

Ah, yes... it was quite a perilous one. [ He makes a face. He doesn't feel much like discussing it. ]

Your village has a monster plaguing it, then? Should something start even so much as pester a village of hobbits, I don't think they'd much know how to manage it.

It is more a turn of phrase for sympathy than one taking blame, though I wish it were a thing with which I could help. Alas, should I have been in your world instead, I doubt myself to be a person who would be of service in such a grim situation.
