One Ring. Accidental Voice

Sam? Samwise Gamgee?

... What an awful mistake I've made. Things all went black, and a sharp pain filled me, deep in my back and heart and encompassed me whole. This place, it isn't the place I left. This is not the tunnel, not even the mountain pass.

This strange book, and these strange wings... what has happened to me? More aches, pains unfamiliar, are stuck in me, now. They run not as deep, but are strong enough for remembering. My task... no guide, no companion, my Sam... not even the voice in my head to give me any guide. The weight of the eye is gone, but now what am I to do?

Sam, oh Sam, I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry...

How stupid... I may have spoken too much without thinking. I...

I-I thank you, sir. I have this feeling, a dreadful one, and it is strange but I must ask-- Is this land in Middle Earth? Where have I gone to?

The journals turn themselves on of their own volition, at times. Usually in the middle of a crisis like a first arrival or being returned from a kidnapping.

I'll apologize for eavesdropping, though.

And I'm sorry, but you're not in your own world anymore. I don't know where "Middle Earth" is, but it isn't here.

This place is called Luceti.

Kidnapping, sir?

Is there a chance this land is that of the Elves, then? My apologies, but... this isn't making much sense. Is it perhaps that I'm dead?

You would know better than I would.

There are some villagers here who have died in their own worlds. But it certainly isn't compulsory.

And while there are probably a few elves in town, this isn't their world. It isn't really anyone's world, except the Malnosso's.

... I can't say I can be sure, right now. Everything was so swift and fuzzy.

Who are the Malnosso?

The Malnosso are our captors.

There's some debate still over whether or not they're the ones who brought you here, but they are the ones responsible for keeping the village comfortably supplied while at the same time being responsible for virtually all our misery here.

For most of the month?

It can actually be quite nice, here.

The last week of every month? That's when it gets...unfortunate.

[And, y'know, any other point at all if the droids decide to drag you off, but Giles decides that he's probably traumatized the New Feather enough for now.]

Luceti is a remarkably...cyclical sort of place, yes.

It can help, yes.

...where are you? Can you see the village at all?

[Voice]

[identity profile] harthad.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I've reached a river. I'm following it, hopefully the right way. A man named Sigmund told me of what to look for to find my way.

You probably want to follow it downstream.

There should also be a map somewhere in your journal.

A map... quite a bit more helpful...

There should also be a guide for New Feathers.

Which is to say, newcomers like yourself.

I will give it a thorough read once I've the eyes to do it. You have my greatest thanks... for now, though, a rest. A sound sleep is all I can manage, right now, once my feet have guided me to your village. [ He hopes they can do at least that. ]

Re: [Voice]

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2011-05-16 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you can sort things out after a rest. You'll want to find the Welcome Center - they have beds available for just that.

...I'd offer to come and help, but I'm not in the best shape for going past the village, at the moment.

[Voice]

[identity profile] harthad.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Then my course has been set for me. My things, a long sleep, and time to ponder all of this.

Have you been harmed, sir, or has illness befallen you? I'm sorry to hear that, so sorry.

Re: [Voice]

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2011-05-17 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure how much of your things will have made it over. But sleep and time, you'll probably have plenty of that. Does tea exist in your world? They make excellent tea at the Welcome Center, as well.

Bit of both, you might say. The main problem is that our captors saw fit to make me temporarily blind. So I'm not much help to you beyond explanations.

[Voice]

[identity profile] harthad.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
A bit of hot tea, some honey mixed in... such a thought is peace upon my heart.

They took your sight? How so? By what means and for what madness did they take a man's eyes from him?
consultmybooks: (Music Man)

Re: [Voice]

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2011-05-21 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
A hobbit after my own heart. I'll make you some tea with honey myself, when I can finally see well enough to do so. I've been told that I know a thing or two about tea.

...they did, yes. The means - I'd rather not shake you up further, thanks, not when you're not even in the village. [Because it involved quite a few surgeries and scalpels and needles and tests.] For what madness? A rather outdated inside joke, and seeing whether the blind have an easier or a harder time sleeping.

[Voice]

[identity profile] harthad.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Then I will provide the cakes to go along with it, if you would do such a thing. Please take your time, of course. [ Goodness, he knows better, but he does want this so much. It's such a familiar scene. ]

Y-Yes... a discussion for later times, when I've a better head for handling more stresses.

... People to mind... people to mind for sure.

Re: [Voice]

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2011-05-21 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
If you want. Or there's a man that lives with me who'd be more than happy to provide any sort of sweet you care to name. [Especially, Giles imagines, to you, Frodo.] Still. I would happily do such a thing.

[His voice is light at the mention of a tea party, but sobers again at the mention of the Malnosso.] A discussion for never, if you'd prefer. The Malnosso are certainly people to mind, although I would hesitate even to apply the particular of "person". But, by and large, we just...haven't figured out how best to mind them, then.

[Voice]

[identity profile] harthad.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose I'd feel a better guest if I were to bring my share along with me.

That would be fine, too, but I would like to know more of these creatures, or people, or whatever beings they might be. I would not want to spoil tea and cakes with such a conversation, but at another time... being in darkness, I have done too much of it. I would like to know what to expect.
