... What an awful mistake I've made. Things all went black, and a sharp pain filled me, deep in my back and heart and encompassed me whole. This place, it isn't the place I left. This is not the tunnel, not even the mountain pass.

This strange book, and these strange wings... what has happened to me? More aches, pains unfamiliar, are stuck in me, now. They run not as deep, but are strong enough for remembering. My task... no guide, no companion, my Sam... not even the voice in my head to give me any guide. The weight of the eye is gone, but now what am I to do?

[ From what he has heard, so far, his name has not traveled around. But, he's still so wary. ] I am... I am merely a traveler who has lost his companion. I believe myself to be fine, but these wings... how did these come about?

I...study lots of things. Books, History, Math, all the usual stuff everyone learns. But what am I? I'm a guy, a human being? What does that make you then? are you not a human? And as for the wings, they...just kinda grow on everyone. DON'T mess with them too much, without them you die, and they get hurt pretty easily.

[blinks for a second, remembering his childhood]

No...your pictures are kinda small, like something I read about in a book when I was a kid. Are...you a Hobbit? Like...um...whats his name? Bil..do? Bilno? Bilbo? I...can't remember exactly...

I...read about a little guy named Bilbo in a book when I was in school. I don't think he's in the village though. Oh, if...nobody has explained it, you aren't in your world anymore. This is kind of...a place between time where people from every world get stuck, so...your friend Bilbo could very well be the same person from my book.
